What this meeting is about
Cardiology Update 2018 will provide insight into new developments in the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease. This meeting aims at highlighting changing paradigms regarding the pathogenesis and management of ischaemic heart disease. The role of inflammation and the coagulation system in the progression of ischaemic heart disease and the development of cardiovascular events will feature prominently. Discussions will take place regarding the role of the coagulation pathway as a novel target for secondary prevention based on results of recent trials.
The meeting will be interactive and a whole session will be devoted to case presentation and discussion in small groups, with the implementation of an MDT format.
Main Objectives
1. To gain insight into the role of the coagulation pathway in coronary artery and peripheral artery disease progression;
2. To understand the effects of anticoagulant therapy in the prevention of major cardiovascular events;
3. To gain insight into the effects of combined anticoagulant and antithrombotic therapies in the prevention of peripheral vascular disease and its complications;
4. To discuss the role of inflammation, platelets and diabetes in vascular disease progression and clinical outcomes and how to prevent events;
5. To create an interactive forum where faculty members and attendees can have fruitful face to face discussions;
6. To discuss clinical cases that provide insight into novel cardiovascular disease prevention strategies.
